Shawnee Chief Tecumseh

I will analyze the speech of Shawnee Chief Tecumseh
Address to General William Henry Harrison

Speech Summary: This speech given by Chief Tecumseh was an attempt to bring out the adverse effects that would happen if the American Government continued to take land from the Indians.
M1-Suspend Judgement: The Chief never proclaims a slander against the white man , instead simply tells of the wrongs as they happened.
M2-Define Significant Parts and How They Relate: Part of the opening statement,
"I am the maker of my own fortune", is a significant part because it explains the honest human nature of gaining prosperity from ones own sacrifices, not the sacrifices of others. This thought is carried throughout the speech til the end when Chief Tecumseh states that "It belongs to the first who sits down on his blanket or skins which he has thrown upon the ground; and till he leaves it no other has a right.
M3-Make the Implicit Explicit: Surprisinly there isn't any hidden message, Chief Tecumseh tells it like it is.
M4-Look for Patterns: One pattern that plays out is when Chief Tecumseh announces the connection to the
"Great Spirit". This helps his audience realize that his argument is sunstantiated by a much greater force than one man or group of men could introduce.
M5-Keep Reformulating Questions and Explanations: Chief Tecumseh gets his point out of why the white man shouldn't take property by explaining the world view as well as the fact that white people are "never contented but always encroaching".
