Columbine Speech

Summary:
This speech is a memorial address about the shootings at columbine high school. Gore spends time discussing what happened on that day, remembering those who died and those who saved others. He also spends time discussing what he beleives went wrong in these childrens lives and how the adults in america can help make problems like this better.

Move 1 suspend judgement:
Al Gore understands and knows who is responsible for these shootings, but he does not just jump to conclusions and talk about how messed up these kids are. He makes it seem like maybe it is necessarily their fault, he doesn't completely blame them for how they turned out but suggests how adults in america could stop other children from turning out like this.

Move 2 define specific parts and how they are related:
Gore relates how parents and adults are raising children to how they turn out in early adulthood. He relates seeing good examples of compassion and love at a young age to becoming a healthy and loving adult.

Move 3 make the implicit explicit:
This is a very straight forward speech, mourning for the ones who were lost during columbine. I don't really beleive there is anything in this speech that gore is trying to say implicitly.

Move 4 look for patterns:
patterns of repetition- gore continually goes back to this idea of american adults setting better example for the young children in the US. He also repeatedly quotes things from the bible and just in general makes very religeous statements.

Move 5 keep formulating questions and explanations:

How many people were injurred during columbine?

How long did it take everyone to get out of the building?

What happened to the shooters after they were caught?

Could adults setting better examples for children really help in cases like this?http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/algorecolumbine.htm
